A few weeks ago I posted a review of the Logitech Harmony Touch Universal Remote which I’ve continued using to control all my AV equipment. After an extended time using it, I’ve noticed a few things that could stand some improvement, notably the button placement… That’s why I’m really interested in URC’s latest remote, the MX-890. This high end universal remote features a color LCD that can display custom icons. The screen isn’t touch enabled, but there are hard buttons on the sides that line up with the icons on the display. When you pair the MX-890 with one of URC’s base stations, you don’t have to be in the same room as your equipment because it can control them through walls, cabinet doors or even from outside. You can setup macros to create custom startup sequences and you’ll never have to worry about the batteries going dead because the remote has a tabletop charging cradle.
