Apples Wins Federal Injunction Against Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung was hit with bad news Tuesday when U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh issued an injunction against the company barring it from selling the Galaxy 10.1 tablet because it looked a little too much like the iPad.

The decision is another chapter in the ongoing patent fight between Samsung and Apple. Apple contends that Samsung’s devices infringe on many of Apple’s patented devices including the iPhone and the iPad.

The judge agreed with Apple in the ruling stating that: “the Court noted that the GalaxyTab 10.1 is ‘virtually indistinguishable’ from Apple’s iPad and iPad 2.”

More damning is Koh’s statement that Samsung has been activly working towards making it’s products appear similar to Apple’s. “There was some evidence that Samsung altered its design to make its product look more like Apple’s.”

“Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products.” Koh stated in the injunction ruling.

There had been talk of a reconciliation between the companies, but it looks like that might be out the window with Koh’s ruling.
